Happy National Physicians Week!

This week we celebrate National Physicians Week, a perfect chance to recognize the incredible work doctors do every day.

Becoming a physician is not easy. It requires years of preparation, as well as passion and determination, and for many, it also involves great personal sacrifices.

Most specialized physicians spend between 11 to 14 years obtaining the education they need to be able to heal their patients. Up to a quarter of physicians work an average 60-80 hours a week, sacrificing time with their families to care for their patients. This kind of dedication can only be accomplished by individuals who have a sincere desire to help others.

Many times, we take doctors for granted, but we should remember that they were with us when we were born, they helped keep us healthy while we grew up, assisted in the delivery of our children, and they will help us in our final days.

Physicians are the unsung heroes of our lives, and they deserve our appreciation and respect. Doctors are human just like the rest of us, and they enjoy building relationships with their patients. This week we should all take a little time from our busy schedules to show our appreciation to those special physicians who have helped us during our best and worst moments in life.

This National Physicians Week, Thank Your Doctor.

Here are a few ideas to express how thankful you are for their dedication to their challenging profession:

  • Wear a red carnation. Red carnations are the traditional flower of Doctor’s Day, so you can show your support by wearing a red carnation.
  • If your favorite doctor has passed away, you can visit their grave and leave a red carnation as a way of honoring their legacy.
  • Send your favorite physician a thank-you note, including a story of a time when they made a positive impact in your life or that of a loved one.
  • Cookies and snacks are always a good way to show how much you appreciate someone.
  • Send them a picture of a healthy you.

Moreover, if you really want to make your doctor happy, show them you are keeping up with your health and treatment as suggested. Nothing will make your doctor happier than knowing you are well and taking good care of yourself. After all, the reason they spent all those years studying and working late shifts is so you can enjoy all the benefits.

Although Doctors deserve recognition every day for the wonderful work they do, National Physicians Week is a great time to promote understanding and advocacy of the challenges that physicians face and honor their commitment and passion for the betterment of our lives.
